What is Metabase

Metabase is an open source business intelligence platform. You connect a database to it, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server or BigQuery, and the tables become available for your team to query.

To build an analysis, you pick a table, filters, groupings and a chart type in the visual editor. If you know SQL, you can use the query editor. Each result can become a dashboard with filters and be shared.

On your VPS, Metabase comes with the admin account already created and with a sample database and dashboard, "E-commerce Insights". This lets you explore the interface before connecting your own data.

How much does a VPS with Metabase cost?

The recommended plan, Basic, costs US$ 11.95 per month. Open source Metabase does not charge per user, so your only cost is the server.

How much RAM does Metabase need?

Metabase needs at least 1536 MB free. At idle it uses about 650 MB, and usage rises with large queries and many users at the same time.

Which databases can Metabase connect to?

It connects to PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, BigQuery, Snowflake and others. The database can be on the same VPS or on another server, as long as it is reachable over the network.

Does self-hosted Metabase store my company data?

No. It queries the databases you connect and only stores the questions and dashboards you create. Your data stays in the original database.

How do I update Metabase on my VPS?

The VPS is delivered with version 0.64.2.3. You can update whenever you want through root SSH access, preferably after testing the new version.

Can Metabase send reports by email?

Yes, through dashboard subscriptions. First, you need to set up an SMTP server in the Metabase settings.

Can I install other apps on the same VPS?

Yes, and each app gets its own address. The condition is that everything fits in the plan's memory, keeping in mind that Metabase alone uses about 650 MB at idle.

Is there a contract or a refund policy?

There is no lock-in contract. You can pay by Pix, card or boleto, and you have 7 days to request a refund. Support in Portuguese is available 24/7 by WhatsApp, ticket and phone, for server issues.
