What is Directus

Directus is a data platform that works as a headless CMS. You create collections, such as "products" or "posts", define the fields for each one, and your team edits the items in a visual dashboard. Every collection gets a REST and GraphQL API automatically.

Because it is headless, it does not build pages. It stores your content and delivers it through an API, and your Next.js site, mobile app or connected automation decides how it looks.

The project uses the MSCL-1.0-GPL license. On first login, Directus asks which plan you use: Core is free and needs no key. It also asks for the project owner's email and acceptance of the terms, steps that are up to you.

Which plan to choose for Directus

In our measurements, idle Directus uses about 300 MB of memory, so it needs at least 512 MB free. More API traffic and image transformations increase that usage.

How much does a VPS with Directus cost?

A VPS with Directus installed starts at US$ 6.95 per month on the Start plan. The Directus Core plan itself is free and needs no key.

What are the minimum server requirements for self-hosted Directus?

Directus needs at least 512 MB of free memory, and it uses about 300 MB at idle. The Start plan, with 1 vCore, 1 GB of RAM and 20 GB of NVMe, is the recommended starting point.

Why does Directus ask for a license on first login?

It uses the MSCL-1.0-GPL license and asks which plan you use and who is responsible for the project. Choose Core, which is free, and accept the terms if you agree with them.

Does Directus build my company website?

No. It is headless: it stores your content and delivers it through an API. The look and feel is handled by your site or app, which can be built with any technology.

Can anyone create an account on my Directus?

No. Public sign-up is disabled by default, so only people given access by an administrator can log in.

How do I update a self-hosted Directus?

The installed version is 12.5.0 and stays fixed until you decide to change it. When you want to update, do it over SSH with root access, preferably after testing.

Can I use the same VPS for other apps besides Directus?

Yes. Several apps can share the same VPS, each on its own address, as long as the memory is enough for all of them. Plans like Plus and Pro give you more room for this.

Can I reinstall Directus from scratch?

Yes. The VPS panel in the client area lets you reinstall the server, which erases the current data. If you need help with the server, 24/7 support in Portuguese is available by WhatsApp, ticket and phone.
